"The rules are...not so steeped, I think, in the fear we have attached to magic. Then again," Ellie watched her butterflies a moment, directing a few away from a book before Stephen could go ahead and banish them for her. He'd always said it was better she was able to practice controlling it herself.
"...I suppose it's about that way for muggles, where you're from.Somewhat anyway. And.." she nodded. "It depends on a lot of things, if you're a very strong mage, it may come earlier. The best healer that da knew once, who started the war that freed us from the circles... he manifested very young, I'm told..." She didn't know what to think of Anders and the stories surrounding him and Sebastian had never said much, having a sort of shame attached to Anders and how he had viewed the world, it seemed. she didn't like to pry though.
"Wands, aye...mages get staffs sometimes, when they are going to fight. Different ones have different properties, to make channeling a little easier...I had some lessons here with a mage from home for a bit who had one that channeled more fire than anything else, because that was what he was good at, so it complimented things, but..." But things with Dorian had been odd after that time their doubles had come in and her double and Dorian's double had each managed to mercilessly terrify the other party so that working together was no longer really an option.
She smiled, watching the raccoon move from the wand. "That's fair brilliant though, right there."
And then Nova came trotting up, eager for pets and making soft whining noises, almost like she was answering. Ellie laughed a little, stepping over.
"She can't quite, since she's from here. At home I did have a mabari. They're in tune with mages and have some degree of magical understanding, like a familiar. They're also massive, of course."
