The 4th of July Picnic!
Who: Wyatt, Steve Rogers, Open
When: July 4th, Noon
Where: A park in Angel Grove
What: It's a 4th of July Picnic! Hotdogs! Baseball! Fireworks!
Rating/Warnings: Some glossed over mentions of Wyatt as a POW, mentioned drug use, nothing explicit
Status: Open
There were a lot of times that Wyatt still woke up in the middle of the night drenched in sweat, convinced that he was still in prison, that he was watching Caroline die in front of him again, or that he was losing his way due to the acid trip from hell. And every time, coming back to himself, he sincerely thanked his god, or whoever else had brought him here, to an America that was free, that had withstood the challenges of time and remained strong, and pure and true. For him, being here, in spite of the other obstacles and problems he saw on the news and was doing his best to learn about and help with, and being truly free again, was reason enough to celebrate this fourth of July now more than ever.
It was the first he'd really known without being occupied since back during the war, since he'd been just a kid and prone to panic at everything. And he was bound and determined to make it a good one. Right now, he was perched on a ladder, stretching a large banner between two trees in the park, Steve Rogers was over at the grills, making sure they worked, and starting up the coals, and a bunch of other people in the crowd were running around, making sure that things were going well.
Due east, there was the picnic area, with a table piled high with dishes people had brought to pass, to the west, a playground for the kids, and someone organizing something to do with water balloons, with nature trails to the south, and, due North, a baseball field, waiting with the promise of a game, and bleachers for watching fireworks later tonight.
Wyatt grinned, looking around him, taking it all in and preserving the moment in his memory. Time to kick this off and celebrate in style, then. He knew damned well that he was ready, and that all of them had earned this.
Maybe it was silly, maybe it was stupid, but here they were, and here he'd always be. If that wasn't worth celebrating, Wyatt wasn't sure what WAS.
((OOC: Some major spoilers for the Wyatt timeline in Wolfenstien : The New Order, but here's the most badass versionof the Hendrix version of the Star Spangled Banner ever. The link does contain a violent death by nazis, however))
