She had heard his question, but her silence may make him think otherwise. It wasn't that she didn't hear him. Or even that she was ignoring him. It was just... too insane to say. "If I answer you," she starts, her tone obviously unsure, "It sounds just as crazy out loud as it did in my head." Fortunately he didn't seem to put much into her answer as his hand reached for hers in order to urge her along. Holding onto his hand, she allowed him to lead her along. She kept only a step or two behind him, but not enough to where he had to drag her or anything.
It wasn't like she could hold it against him that he didn't have any money, because, well, she didn't have any either. He had seen from her meager shelter back home that she wasn't exactly made of money. Just because she had hung out with Trent, didn't mean she was made of money like his family. As a matter of fact, her and her mom had a had time keeping the broke down things they did have. It wasn't so easy when your dad was known to be in prison for stealing cars. People didn't turn a blind eye to those things. But, that was why she stuck up for Sam when Trent was being a jerk about his car. Yeah, Sam lived in suburbia, but maybe his parents weren't rich like Trent's, y'know?
When they approached the front desk for the shelter, Sam did his usual mumbling thing he did when he was nervous. Somehow he did manage to ask for some rooms. Not really wanting to put them out two rooms, when they could just share one, Mikaela made sure to pipe up, "One room will be just fine." It wasn't that she was trying to be forward or anything, she just, didn't want to put other people out. It didn't seem exactly fair. Who knew who would all need someplace to go? And what kind of jerks would they be in taking two places when they could share one? 'Cause she would have to feel sorry for the person who would be stuck being assigned to a room with Sam. He could, like, talk them to death or something. At least she was kind of used to him.
She'd have to admit, it was kind of for her own selfish reasons she wanted to stay with him too. He always found some way to calm her down when she was freaking out. With Sam, she always felt safe. Maybe it was because she knew how much he cared about her and that he wouldn't let her down. With him there, she wouldn't be alone. Sure, maybe it was a little risky sharing a room with a hormonal boy, but... at least he was respectful, right? He would never do anything to her that she didn't feel comfortable with. Hell, she had to be the one to kiss him
