The jeans and green, long sleeved button down Aaron was wearing were perfect for the 70 degree weather in Perth, but not so great for New York in freaking January. He'd Texted Ori, warning her not to put her winter gear on when she came out. He arrived at Eastside Billiards a few minutes before her shift ended and planted himself against a lamppost in plain sight of the door. He was glad it wasn't as cold as it had been earlier in the month, but he was missing his hoodie. They would not be hanging around outside for too long before he teleported them to Australia.
He was trying not to pysch himself out. He was floored that she agreed to a date. He didn't actually believe she was serious about marriage, but it had been his opening for asking her out. If anyone told him Ori was out of his league, Aaron would agree without any hint of self-degradation. It was just fact. She got his references, but that just made her cooler in his book without putting her on a pedestal. But he wasn't thinking about all the ways he could mess this up. So far, with the exception of that first night, he'd managed to be human with Ori. He would try to maintain that streak.
Every time the door opened, Aaron would perk up, expecting to see Ori. Every time, it wasn't her, and he would relax against the post again. After the sixth time that happened, Aaron stopped reacting and started watching the cars drive by. If he didn't watch the door, he wouldn't look like a puppy. He had to be casual. It was just dinner. Or, actually, it was breakfast for dinner at a place that thinks it's breakfast time.
