The atmosphere around base camp was mixed. The small group that was assigned to support the two archaeologists sent to survey the mine were equal parts bored and annoyed. Bored due to the fact that there was little to do aside from wait for the archaeologists to pour over their maps, wait for them to go into the mine, then wait for them to return with their pictures or whatever they were sent to collect only to wait to repeat the process another day. The annoyance was not that they were on the fourth day in the field without any notifiable progress, but almost all entirely directed at Charles. The stuffed animal.
Dani seemed to be the only one at camp who was not giving the younger archaeologist a difficult time over keeping a stuffed toy around. As far as quirks went, not outgrowing a child's toy was rather harmless. Besides, it was kind of cute. In fact, she wished they would at least save the teasing until after the day's excursion into the mine. All of the simple to traverse paths led to deadends with no result, if Hugh was to be at all useful traveling through the path they planned to explore, she would need the man to be focused. "You really should ignore them," she said with a smile after she lightly pinched his arm to regain his attention.
