It was difficult to conceive what had been going on at Anathema Preparatory as of late. Ever since Medea Cabots had been attacked, and mysterious newcomers had shown up, tension was beginning to rise. Suddenly, instead of the few, rare supremacists, handfuls of students were preaching the superiority of their races. Sure, it was usually a student like Imogene Rosemary who was responsible for the preaching, but — how long would it be before others followed? Though she hated to think about the worst-case scenario, Violet had to admit that she was worried. What if it were to escalate into something bigger? Something more? What if it came down to violence? Vampire versus Were? Were versus Witch? And what about the Humans? Violet had never been in the sort of situation that would require her to defend herself against a Vampire. Or a Witch. Defending herself against her own kind had been terrifying enough...
She was beginning to think that it was in light of these changes that she was feeling courageous on this front — the Troy front. As strange as it seemed, her uncertainty had helped to eclipse her shyness; who knew how many other opportunities she would have? What if everything took a turn for the worse before she was able to tell him? Come clean? That would be the worst-case scenario. And so, Violet had made her decision. She was tired of hiding in the shadows, and she wanted to move on with her life. She was tired of trying to erase her past. She decided, and justly so, that it was time for her to live in the moment. That was what she intended to do when he met her tonight.
Violet fidgeted, playing with her bracelet and the hem of her shirt as she waited for him, pacing back and forth, feeling kind of nervous. She hoped that she would feel better once they were outside, somewhere away from the Luna dormitories. It would be stressful enough without their nosy classmates listening in. Or, of course, any of the younger students. She wondered what he would say after she had told him. More important, she wondered what it would do to their friendship. But, she had to get it off her chest, no matter how much it scared her. And she hoped that, in the least, he would realize how much bravery it had taken for her to be honest with him.
