He barely believed himself. He had proposed. At the time, it seemed like a good idea. She’s the only one that let him be himself; she didn’t get mad at him for being a no good, two-timing, whore. She didn’t seem to mind that he couldn’t keep his dick in in his pants, and he liked that about his relationship with her. And, in a way, it made him more responsible. Sort of like legalizing something; it takes the excitement of doing it if it’s okay in the end. So, naturally, he was attracted to her because she let his idiosyncrasies slide. Her daughter didn’t hate him. She understood him. Better than anyone else. Perhaps even better than Roxas.
Alice didn’t beg for him to change. She took him in as he was. Axel appreciated that about her, and extended the same courtesy. To be honest, he’d never tell anyone to change for him. What’s the point in that? That’s why he always got defensive when Roxas asked him to stop sleeping around. He knew the kid was jealous, but it didn’t matter.
Maybe if, in Roxas’ case, he had just… given in to Axel’s demanding needs, things might have worked out.
Sex is like a drug, especially to Axel. Roxas didn’t seem to understand that like Alice did… he kept denying it and eventually, Axel slept around because of it. Get your fix somewhere, anywhere. Just get it.
That’s why he figured marrying Alice would be a good idea.
“Why am I doing this?” he asked himself, lazily leafing through bridal catalogues. “This is insane, even for me.”
He’d been thinking hard on it since talking (and more) to Kairi. She’d put some interesting ideas into his head, and he was intrigued and scared of them.
“I wonder…” he put the magazine away and leaned back in his chair. “Am I doing this for all the wrong reasons?”
He loved Alice.
But he loved Aeris, Kairi, and Roxas too. He couldn’t deny it.
Alice got him. She never questioned him.
But neither did Aeris… she was always looking out for him.
Alice was amazing in bed…
But so was everyone else. He had to admit… he missed Roxas.
There was something. A reason for this decision… that came from seemingly nowhere. And he was scared because somewhere deep down, he already knew what it was.
Am I only doing this to get back at Roxas for leaving me? He thought.
