Alex trailed to a table cleared by the dishboy and wrinkled her nose in disgust at the three crumpled one dollar bills and the scattered coins that weren't worth her time. She threw it all into her apron pocket anyway, coins included. Three young men had previously occupied the table, ordered practically every appetizer on the menu and loitered at the booth for nearly an hour after finishing their food. She had an inkling it was mostly just to see how she'd react to their ridiculous pick-up lines. Apparently, smiling but not biting didn't help her tips. There was just over an hour left to the longest shift in the history of her employment at the diner.
She remembered them talking about heading to CBGBs and she briefly wondered how plausible it would be to find someone to pay her cover. She didn't exactly want to spend the money with the rent coming up in the next couple of days, but she had tomorrow off and she'd be damned if she didn't take advantage of her night.
Alex briskly maneuvered through the diner and around customers with the familiarity of a seasoned waitress. By the time she had made rounds to her tables, there was already another occupant. Fuck, she'd kill to look that good with blonde hair. Actually, she loved her rich brunette waves, even if they were in a tangled ponytail at the moment, but damned if a girl every now and then didn't catch her eye.
She stopped alongside the lone girl and flipped to a blank piece of paper in her notepad. "What can I get ya?" The question was served with the cookie-cutter I'm-A-Waitress-And-So-Glad-To-Be-Serving-You smile.
