"Impressive," he said. Impressive, but likely not easy. And not easy to deal with afterwards. He couldn't relate to her exact situation, of course not. He wasn't from Panem. But he had been put through trials of a sort, at the hands of his father. And he'd suffered the emotional ramifications of winning just as horrifically as he'd suffered the consequences of losing.
Her arena sounded like a no win situation. Obviously not winning was death, but winning meant having to deal with the consequences anyway. He decided not to go that route, why would he? He barely knew her and he had his own traumas threatening to bubble over.
"So, what do you say we find you an axe. And if we can't find one, we'll make one." Easier to focus on something a little more concrete.
