The moment he glanced up, Lexi's eyes were scanning his face. She had an excellent memory and it wasn't hard to match certain things to what she had previously store. Still, she held her tongue on calling his bluff. From what she could tell, he hadn't changed his appearance, not really. Simply distracted from it. Without the telling signs it was much harder to be immediately certain. It was a good idea without a continued conscious effort to maintain it. Simple was best.
Leaning back in her chair, she took a sip of her own ale as she watched him from across the table. There were other signs, certain movements, but they were harder to see and she wasn't at all worried about pushing herself to watch for them. Patience may not be something she practiced all the time, but she knew it's benefits.
"I've got nothing to sell but myself and you couldn't afford it," she responded, offering a lazy shrug. "And trading ... well, I'd have to trade for something of more or equal value. That too, could be a problem. And a drinking partner? I don't need a partner to drink." So then why was she there? "I'm here because I feel like being here. What's your excuse?"
