Lucas sighed in a wistful way when Evy talked about Bella. Miles was surprised he stayed quiet. Before he would go on about wanting a dog and giving his dad hopeful eyes. It was a conversation they have had more than once. A dog just wasn't feasible for them. In a few years time Lucas would be off to Hogwarts, and the dog wouldn't be able to go with him, and Miles just didn't have that kind of time for an animal, working at the Ministry as a Hitwizard. There was no telling when over-time would be needed, or demanded. But at least it seemed the repeat of reasons why not to get one was finally sinking in. At least the boy didn't want a cat. Miles simply was not a cat person.
But then it was Miles' turn to sigh, though his was more in resignation. Two against one, there was no winning with such odds, especially when one was his son and the other... Evy. "There is no winning when you two gang up on me."
Lucas smiled and leaned close to Evy. "You can ask Uncle Ade, he'll confirm it too. He was there one day."
Miles rolled his eyes and reached over, tapping Lucas on the head. "The ice sculptures?"
"Oh! Right! The ice sculptures were really cool. Some of them even moved, but the rides were my favorite. They had this ice dragon ride that was all over the place. It was sooo much fun. Dad even enjoyed it! Even the kiddie play park was cool, it had this huge ice slide that looked like a castle."
Miles was grateful when the waitress arrived, taking their orders. But then she disappeared, leaving him at the mercy of a seven year old and a woman he got far too much joy out of dotting on.
