Kennie was open on New Year's day, as usual. He only closed up on the Eve, as it was usually spent with his family, like this year they had all come and filled up his flat. It had been a nice change from Christmas, where it had been at his parents house. And as they were use to the wizarding things now? It wasn't nearly as bad or awkward. Plus, they liked all the magical pets - though he had to keep the crups away from them.
Today was proving to be as slow as he had figured it would be. Just regulars stopping in for quick refills of pet supplies before heading on their way, and then the family now at the toad tank. Kennie was leaning down into the tank when the bell announcing a new customer rang, and with the family standing around the tank, he was hidden from view. However, the kid wanted to look at what was proving to be the msot elusive of the toads. He had a sinking suspicion the toad hadn't liked how the kid had been tapping on the glass before.
"Ugh, he's an elusive little one... Ah! There we are, here he is," he said, resurfacing from the tank, sleeves rolled up past his elbows, arms wet from having to chase the toad through the shallow water in the tank. That was when he heard exactly what the couple was saying. Glancing over to the new customer, he realized what was going on. He knew who that man was - had harbored a secret crush on him, along with many other Quidditch players for some time now.
So he quickly re-engaged them in the toad. In the end, the child didn't want it, said he was too slimy, and the family left. Kennie sighed, good riddance. He didn't like their tone while talking about Flint, not one bit. Turning the now calm toad about in his hand, where it sat patiently now, he narrowed his eyes at it. "You could have been nicer." And then he sat the toad back into the tank with its compatriots, and headed toward the sink. "I'll be with you in a moment, he called out to Flint before getting the sink turned on and proceeding to scrub his hands and arms.
He was pushing down the shirt sleeves of his blue pin striped button up - left with the cuffs undone and open over a graphic tee on underneath - he smiled at the infamous Quidditch player. "Sorry about that. What can I help you with?"
