"If we're goin' to pretend, yeah, I am lookin' forward to bein' home on Serenity," he admitted, but he wasn't completely oblivious to the fact that she wasn't jumping for joy at the prospect of going home. There was definitely a bittersweet tinge to it for him, as well, if they parted ways here.
He reached over, brushing his hand down her arm. It was coming down to now or never, he realized. He could invite her to his world or they could say goodbye and hell, maybe they'd see each other ten minutes after they parted ways when the lab snatched 'em back up again, but maybe this was real and this was it. How long would it be before he stopped thinking about her, what could have been, what he should have told her?
"It's not an easy life, y'know. Odds are good we'll be shot at ... for no good reason, I might add. Sometimes parts fall right off the boat, and Jayne's almost always around with some remark or another, but," he inhaled, lifting one shoulder in a half shrug, "you could come along if you don't think you'd get sick of me after a day or two."
