Once everyone had been directed to the rows of rooms on the modified cruise ship, the captain made an announcement over the intercom.
All righty guys, we're underway. Should have you to our lab by evening and get you all back home by dinner time. Just a few little tidbits since we know how these people operate and figure the odds are good that at least one of you was pulled from a point just prior to an imminent demise ... we can stick you in a reality that isn't yours. The technical details are ... technical, but we aren't fans of creating paradoxes. So you can hit a world that's not-quite yours, but very close to it. If we're careful, we can also slide you into worlds that aren't yours. Just come on up and talk to me or Maggie about it, and we'll get to work on coordinates for that.
Otherwise, sit tight and enjoy the ride. The galley's down below decks, help yourself to whatever you find down there, and we'll get you home as soon as we can.
___________
Lily made her way into one of the unclaimed rooms, uncertain she completely believed this was real. It had been five months, five painfully long months, and to think that it was finally over ... it was hard to believe. After every other trick that had been played on them, what was there to make them believe this was real?
The boat was moving though, and she glanced up to Balthazar as he followed her into the room. There were going to be some very, very hard good-byes, she realized. She'd gotten close to a lot of people in those five months. Met her grown son, her granddaughter, her great-granddaughter. Jaime, and Tyler ... she'd have to say good-bye to them. To everyone else she'd met here that she cared about.
"Do ... do you think we're really going home?" Lily said as she sat down on the edge of the bed.
______________
Jaime followed the crowd along as they dispersed into the different rooms. She heard the announcement, and she let her baby blue eyes slide to Mal in silent question. If it was possible ... but would he even want her? Sure, he'd wanted her while she was here ... but back home, he probably had his own life, or ... no room in his life for her.
Which was fine. She could just go back to her world, and ... have the memories. Eventually she'd stop mourning, right? She and John could comfort each other. Unless he was ... going back to Lily's world. That was kind of a depressing thought. If she had to go through that alone, she'd find some way to track him down and kill him.
Flopping down onto the bed, Jaime laced her fingers behind her head, stretching out on the bed.
___________
Isadora had boarded the ship with Iridia, and chosen a room at the end of the row they'd been assigned. She left the door open, but she couldn't imagine anyone would be sharing the room with her. Still, if Spike was inclined to have company on the trip, she didn't want him to think he wasn't welcome.
It was a relief to be on their way home, even if she couldn't bring herself to completely trust this. They'd been lied to before, moved before, so what indications were there that this was any different? That it wasn't just another trick?
Dora settled onto the edge of one of the chairs, listening to the voices and footsteps in the hallway as people sorted out their temporary rooming situations. ___________
Home ... it seemed like such a foreign concept to him. Not that he considered either island home, but the idea of going back to normal life, where the most he had to really worry about was ... grades ... it was so weird. No worrying about being drugged in the night or having to witness the demise of people he'd started to consider friends. He thought he should stop in to see Lily and Jaime and say bye, and ... say bye to Remus.
He wondered how many people were going to other places. If Lily and Balthazar were going to go their own ways. If Jaime was going to follow Mal.
Picking a room at random, Tyler ducked inside and set his bag down before exploring the small space. He could hear the others, voices in the hallway, varying degrees of emotion. He'd be glad to get home ... but he'd miss some of the people he'd met here.
_________
LilyLu was pleased about the rescue. What sane person wouldn't be? They were going home, or wherever, and they were away from the insanity that was the hotel and the kidnappers. Lacing her fingers with John's, she tugged him along to one of the remaining empty rooms, slipping inside. She was, she realized, going to miss him.
She was going to miss him a lot more than she was at all inclined to admit. Brown eyes shifted to him, studying his face briefly before she shrugged. "Want to see how many times we can shag before we get to the new lab?" she offered. She might feel a tiny bit weird about it, knowing how close everyone else was, but ... not so weird that it would make her stop.
Honestly though, if they were shagging, she probably wouldn't be thinking about the inevitable good-bye that was going to come when they got to their destination. He'd go home, and she'd go home, and eventually ... this would just be memories, recalled occasionally as life buried them.
