I don't even know if anyone else has watched this show but it's AWESOME and the premise is awesome and I really hope they're working on a second season. (I'm afraid to google it because when I google anything about a show I get spoiled.) So if you don't know the show it's on Netflix and it's a reality show where 12 people compete to become the hero of a fantasy land. IT IS SO GOOD.
...actually if you don't know the show you really shouldn't be reading this, because these feels are extremely spoilery.
Me, watching the show
Five minutes into Episode 1: Yay!! I hope everyone becomes best friends and they have reunions and stuff!!
End of Episode 3: CHRISTIAN IS THE WORST PERSON IN THE WORLD, HE IS NOT WORTHY TO BE CALLED A HERO. BONNIE IS THE ONLY ONE WHO'S TRULY PURE OF HEART. WHY ARE JASMINE AND SHONDO THE ONLY ONES WITH ANY SENSE. THEY KNOW CHRISTIAN'S A TOOL WHY ISN'T ANYONE LISTENING TO THEM.
I have honestly never got into reality tv. It's kind of gimmicky and I generally don't care enough about the premise, but THIS SHOW? Sold in a half a second. Best premise ever. And the detail is awesoooooome. The hag. The makeup on the Queen to make her look sick. SO GOOD.
So the last couple days we've been watching an episode a day, and Christian KEPT ESCAPING banishment despite being a manipulative d-bag. We kept getting randomly mad at him while doing other stuff throughout the day. But today? TODAY we saw the episode where he got banished AT LAST and it was gloriously beautiful, so good, SO GOOD. I KNEW that if they voted for him again he was going to think he was untouchable, and I CALLED IT. He totally thought he still had friends and supporters, but dude, if you pick your team to fail, depending on your buds to vote to keep you around, you are really asking for trouble. You're not even good at Slytherining.
We're kind of torn on whether Bonnie is a really genuine Hufflepuff, like she seems and like the show is building her up to be (much the same as they always showed Christian in a negative light so we'd hate him, see, I do know I'm being manipulated) or a really good and sneaky Slytherin, because we seriously never see anything really negative about her. We see that she's not the fastest/strongest but that she has the most heart, that she's willing to help people and determined to push on through, that she wants to vote for the person who can help the hero even if they won't be the hero... these are all good things, but despite her writing songs (which are fun) and basically being the bard and the heart and soul of the quest, there's got to be some negative attitude. I mean, I've had roommates who were genuinely awesome people and delightful in practically every way but they still got mad and cranky sometimes. Well, cranky for them. They were still hilarious while doing it. And never quite reached my level of cranky.
But even if Bonnie's a secret Slytherin I love her and I want her to win though I really don't expect her to. I just want a woman to win, period. Or Shondo. Shondo's pretty great. Honestly at this point I'd be okay with any of them winning. I was ambivalent about Lina but she came right back and won two badges in a row and I'm kind of really proud of her now.
People gone so far
Katie: BROKE MY FREAKIN' HEART. How awful to be the first one gone! I would cry for days and obsessively call everyone else's cell phones (which I would've put in my phone as soon as I met them) to see who was off next. Because this isn't just saying nope sorry you won't win whatever money you wanted to win by getting to the end. This is saying you are not worthy to be the hero you always dreamed of being. Horrible! And with Katie it was just the worst, because the two guys who were in the Fate's challenge (Patrick and UGH CHRISTIAN) totally teamed up against her. Girl didn't have a chance. So she got banished because guys suck and because she wasn't the strongest, and volunteered to do the job in the first task that ought to have been perfect for her, the less physical job. Then Christian kissed his hand at her before he walked off. Ughhh I hate him, the show is so much better without him.
Second lady: I can't remember her name but she's a horse trainer and they banished her instead of Christian, I know that much. Pissed me off. STOP VOTING AGAINST THE WOMEN. What really frustrated me is that they kept Christian over her because they thought his "skill set" would be more useful to them. Despite the fact that he is crap under pressure and there were other people, like you know, the people who were actually supposed to be training them, who could help teach them to use weapons, they opted not to keep the person who could and legitimately would (and did) help them ride horses. After a task where they were on horseback. Are you freakin' kidding me?
Jim: Literally the only good thing about Jim being gone is that we didn't have to hear Shondo call him Jimbo Slice again. I liked Jim. He played Quidditch. He was the youngest dude. He tended to psyche himself out, but he pulled through in the previous challenge. He is a classy dude and handled being banished with a lot of grace. BUT ONCE AGAIN they said that Christian had a better skill set. WHAT. THIS IS HIS THIRD FATE'S CHALLENGE. IN A ROW. IN THE FIRST THREE ROUNDS. UGH CHRISTIAN.
Jasmine: Got banished because she refused to play games. She had voted against Christian two times in a row and was very straightforward. This made me especially mad because she had ROCKED the horseback challenge, seriously rocked it, she was so impressive. And I was at this point worried that we'd never get rid of Christian after all. We were seriously not sure we could keep watching the show. I really didn't like that they went with her instead of Lina, who hadn't really done a whole lot at that point. But like I said Lina came back and won a badge right after that, and... actually, she won two in a row in the last two rounds, so good for her!
CHRISTIAN AHAHAHAHA HE'S GONE and we seriously rewound so we could see him getting voted off again. I'm inclined to think Leticia really stood behind him so she could see his face when he saw his buddy Andrew was standing behind someone else. She had an excellent view of that. So maybe she was also thinking that everyone deserved to have someone standing behind them, but I think she also had a little malicious glee there. Just a little. Then we kissed our hands at him as he walked off and turned into smoke. Then we cheered when his misty portrait (with that stupid smirk) appeared. You know what the best part of him being gone was? Seeing how no one felt down about it afterward. Every other round people were sad or guilty or whatever, but this time they were like YUP let's get back to work, woo! BECAUSE CHRISTIAN WAS AWFUL. And then we were so pumped up that we watched a second episode.
Adria: I liked her, she was spunky. But she was just kind of squeaking by so it makes sense she'd be the one to go. ...but man, that was the second time someone said "I don't want you to go, you're my mother figure here!" What is that supposed to mean? Do you think Adria and Jasmine are old?? Anyway, totally shocked that Andrew managed to pull it together to win at the challenge, and I'm sort of relieved that Leticia is still moving on because she deserves it. But I liked Adria too, she had a good attitude and she was fun. And had great hair.
Highlights of the show thus far: Bonnie's songs. The other paladins running out and saving Bonnie when she hurt her hand!!! Sir Ansgard (?) defeating the troll!! (Did he really wink?? UGH I missed the wink, I need to look for it on youtube once I've seen it all and can't be spoiled anymore.) Patrick (?) calling the Queen "milady". Adria's "FOR EVERREALM!" fail. Adria slipping in the battle dome. LETICIA WINNING AT THE BATTLE DOME. Sir Ansgard saying that Crio isn't very brave. "STOP BEING SO NICE!" Sir Ansgard is kind of dreamy.
Ugh ugh ugh this show this show this show. I needed to get it out even if no one else watches it. I really hope they're working on another season. Really since there's twelve kingdoms you could really easily have twelve seasons and just move to a different kingdom for each season! Wouldn't that be awesome?
