Tucking a stubborn lock of hair behind her ear, Penelope leaned down to pick up Christopher and Charlotte's toy brooms off of the living room floor and tucked them away in the hall closet. They were usually two of the neatest kids in the neighborhood, but one of their friends from down the street came by after dinner and they took off running to play on a trampoline, a Muggle toy, except this one had a few magical enhancements.
Just as she was closing the door, a pale yellow blob on the top shelf caught her eye and soon she using the wall to brace herself as she stretched her arm up to pull it down. With a few firm tugs, the cloth came loose and she recognized it as the soft blanket her parents had given her and Oliver when she found out she was pregnant with Charlotte. She knew there was a green one just like it in Christopher's room. Last winter Charlotte had declared she was too old for her baby blanket, but Christopher still wasn't ready to give his up, which Penelope was more than happy about. She would be perfectly content if they stayed young enough for those blankets forever.
Holding the blanket close, Penelope shut the closet door behind her and went back into the living room, dropping onto the couch next to the window. With her eyes closed, she ran her fingers over the smooth silk edge of the blanket and couldn't help but smile as she thought about the news she'd be sharing with Oliver when he came home. She'd had her suspicions for a few days now, but a friend that worked in the Babies and Children ward at St. Mungo's fit her in for an appointment this morning and confirmed that her nausea wasn't just a bout of the flu.
The click of the front door being unlocked pulled Penelope from her thoughts as she let the blanket drop onto her lap. "Hey," she said, smiling as her husband walked through the front door. "How was your day?"
