"I don't advise growing out of the ground, you'll end up looking like a mandrake," Hugo said gently, helping Lorcan to his feet and grinning.
"Yes, it growls, Captain Obvious." Hugo's tone was good-natured -- he was sure Lorcan was accustomed to the fond abuse by now. "Evidently. It growls quite a lot actually ..." he frowned, "Especially when it's not free to roam. This is probably quite mean." He inclined his head towards the bag. "But it's been knocking everything over. It's supposed to be trainable."
He opened the satchel, just enough to allow Lorcan to see inside, and moved closer to his friend.
