Slightly shocked by his own temper, Hugo staggered to his feet as Caleb drew his hand away from the back of his head. Was that-- blood? A couple of first years started to squeal. At any moment a teacher or prefect was sure to intervene. Hugo didn't have time to think-- Caleb was training his wand on him again, and merlin only knew what he was about to use on the younger boy-- "Er ... Expelliarmus!" Hugo spat as Caleb spoke. He was just a little too late. The two spells collided visibly in midair, Caleb's jinx overpowering Hugo's much milder spell. Red sparks flew everywhere, hitting many of those standing closest to the fight.
Hugo felt his right forearm burning and looked down to see that the part exposed by his rolled-up shirt sleeve was red with boils. Without thinking he tried to retaliate, but the jelly-legs jinx he aimed at the Slytherin boy flew off in the wrong direction. His injured arm (his wand arm) was not cooperating. The spell struck a Slytherin girl, who fell to the ground with a melodramatic screech. "Shit!" The pain in Hugo's arm was growing unbearable. He flicked another spell at Caleb, this time a stunning spell, as the corridor erupted into chaos. The Slytherin girl was trying to hex Hugo and a few of the Gryffindors behind him were apparently trying to prevent that from happening. "Bloody hell!" Hugo pulled his sleeve down over his injured arm, his cheeks red with anger and surprise at what was happening.
