“It’s all right,” Caroline consoled Isabella. “It’s really not your fault.” She gave a scoffing laugh about the potion. “Yeah, it does do that,” she agreed, her laugh turning sardonic. She appreciated the joke because it, at least, broke a bit of the tension.
Caroline nodded but it was hard not to feel guilty. She smiled bashfully as Isabella assured her there was someone out there for her. It made sense but it really didn’t feel that way, especially today.
Battling the feeling created by the potion with her intellect was incredibly hard and the artificially heightened emotions were winning. She blushed as Isabella told her that she loved her. “I care about you too,” she replied softly. She was afraid to use the l-word though after what had happened.
“Thanks. Your friendship is really important to me,” Caroline told her with great sincerity. She felt better now that it seemed like she hadn’t destroyed their friendship.
Caroline looked towards the door again. “So, maybe we can hang out soon?” It was just too awkward to try and hang out now. Besides, the potion still lingered and the more comfortable she got, the more dangerous it was.
