Despite Freddie's demeanor, Alice thought she might explode with happiness. So he did still care about her, even if he was reluctant to admit it. She had to think about controlling her face and expression; it would be weird to look too happy in this sort of situation. So she forced herself to ignore most of what he had said and focus on what was important.
Tucking a bit of hair behind her ear, Alice leaned down so he didn't have much of a choice but to look at her. "Freddie," she said softly, a sudden swell of emotion filling her eyes and voice. "You don't have to." She wasn't sure if he would know what she meant. "I can't even imagine being with anyone but you." At her last words, she pulled back slightly, unsure of them, her voice soft and somewhat feeble.
