Alice tried to look for some indication of what he was feeling, but she just couldn't find it. Instead, she let her attention fall to the shutters and to the counter, and at last back to him somewhat reluctantly. Alice had the sudden feeling in her chest that she didn't want to be there anymore. She wanted to turn around and leave the way she came - but as he prompted her, her mouth worked on it's own. "Yep," she replied and smiled. Alice couldn't help but laugh at his comment about his mother. She wasn't a terrible cook, but Alice wasn't sure she could have sat through a whole piece of cake from her either. "I'm sure it's wonderful," Alice said quietly, waiting for Freddie to start up the stairs.
Alice too heard the kettle and she wondered what kind of tea there was; she was mostly just trying to take her mind off of his reaction to hugging her. Alice entered his little sitting room and rubbed her arm. "Did you want my help?"
