Caroline shrugged dejectedly. “It seems my mother disagrees with you. She’s always…well…it started off as jolly…then roll-y pole-y…now she just thinks I am…well…fat.” It was true she had a bit of baby fat and had curves but the only reason she even considered she might be fat was because of her mother’s nagging about food.
“Eat to live don’t live to eat, is her favorite saying these days,” Caroline added.
Blinking, it seemed like Isabella was as reserved about such things as Caroline was; with boys, anyways. “ You don’t ever…you know…” She blushed. She was prying and being rude and she knew it but she was curious and there had been so much going on her own mind lately. “…want him to be…a little less of a gentleman?”
Caroline took the teasing good naturedly. “I wouldn’t say that I was busy with dating. But, I have been out a lot like I said. I was hoping to meet up with Trinity but I will need to wait to do that until we are back at school.”
“Sounds great,” Caroline said, starting off in the direction of the restaurant. “Whatever the saltiest, fattiest thing on the menu is,” Caroline said, her mouth already watering from a week of celery sticks. It was another tiny little act of rebellion but she felt like she was really up to something bad! And, it felt great…
Going inside, they were quickly seated. Feeling she wanted to talk more, Caroline asked for a different table. They were sat at one tucked away in the corner. She eyed the menu and waited for the waitress to leave. Once she had, Caroline asked softly, “Isabella? How come you never...ask me questions after a certain point?”
