Alice wrung her wrists behind her back as she waited for him to notice it was her. What would he say? Would he kick her out? She couldn't figure out how he would react and the tension building in chest was almost intolerable. She smiled hesitantly at him, her body inclining slightly to the side as she stood somewhat awkwardly before him.
She thought that the pressure of the silence might crush her were she stood. She tried to read his expression, but she couldn't. The thoughts whirled around her head and the familiar feeling of guilt constricted her lungs. He didn't seem as happy to see her as she had hoped. But that hope had been false and she knew it before she ever took a step into the castle.
"Oh," she said softly, looking down at her shoes. "I suppose...," she started, not wanting to go and having trouble saying that she would get going. His offer, however, made her head snap up in surprise, and she couldn't hide the small, but excited smile from coming to her lips. She took a minute to struggle her expression and emotions back down, and she finally managed a gentle and fond smile. "I would like that," she replied softly, alternating her gaze from her hands at her waist to him, her smile growing fonder by the moment. Did he always do this to her?
