Weasley Gets Promoted -- Legit or favouritism? A piece of Georgina F. Lufkin
When Alastor Gumboil announced his upcoming retirement over the summer, a lot of speculation circulated as to who he would give his position to. This morning, Mr. Gumboil (eighty-six, and current resident of Rowena's Fen announced that he was giving his position to Mrs Hermione Jean Weasley. He stated that, "Mrs Weasley is an astounding employee and I've been pleased to have her around for as long as I have. She's a joy to have around and she really knows what she's talking about. Hermione is passionate and I know she has what it takes to keep this Department running. It was a tough decision, but I think this is for the best."
This statement and announcement were released simultaneously this morning, leaving a few of the long-time employees completely baffled. Frank Baffling, who has been apart of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement for thirty-five years, was completely baffled. He said it was, "appalling that the Weasley girl was able to snag the Head position in her mere sixteen years here, while I've been here for thirty-five and been working myself to the ground trying to get that position! She cheated, that woman!"
These frustratations were echoed by a few other employees in the Department of Magical Law Enforcement, such Virgil Dimirov (who worked in that department for twenty-six years), Henry Astarte (thirty years), and Prudence Timms (twenty-two years).
There has been some concern regarding favouritism in this matter. A few employees at the Ministry claim the Weasley-Potter brigade get first-priority simply for being associated with Harry Potter, the man who finally destroyed You-Know-Who. As most already know, Harry Potter is Head Auror, and his friend and brother-in-law, Ronald Weasley, is one of the higher ups in the Auror Department as well. Not only that but several of their other family members have worked or currently do work for the Ministry. It has not been the first time that Minister Shacklebolt has been accused of letting the Weasley-Potter brigade have their way.
The appointing of Mrs Weasley brings a lot of things to light. Is the Minister playing favourites? Was Mr. Gumboil, as well? Did Mrs Weasley genuinely earn this position?
Not everyone is against her, however. One of her fellow employees, Henrietta Flume, says that, "Hermione is a dedicated, strong witch! She deserved this position more than any of the lazy sods in this department! She does all the dirty work without complains. Hermione gets things done. She doesn't dawdle or make other people do her work for her. She's a very brilliant and caring individual who deserves this position, hands down."
Mrs Weasley, nor any of her family, were available for comment.
