What had started out as an impulsive invitation because she just wanted to see Eddie over the weekend had turned into Friday night dinner; and that in turn had turned into a very late night with Eddie staying over in the end. It wasn’t even all that surprising, Megan had to admit - not with how things had been going between them since the decision to maybe give this whole thing between them another chance. It had been going great and it was wonderful to have him in her life again. They were already planning a weekend away and a holiday after that, if things went well.
When everything was said and done they were still them... they were a year older and maybe just a bit more careful to not make the same mistakes again. And this? This was most definitely not a mistake she decided when she slipped out of bed, trying her best not to wake him up on her way to the loo. With that done and halfway decently dressed, she quietly padded through to the kitchen to put water on for coffee.
This wasn't exactly what Eddie had in mind when he'd agreed to dinner with Megan, but he had to admit that he was not complaining at all. Things with them had been going well-- he hadn't quite realized just how much he really had missed having her in his life until they started talking again. He had enjoyed their evening together, and was more than happy to fall asleep with her in his arms.
He wasn't sure how long he slept, but the sun was peeking in through the curtains as he slowly awoke. He turned, reaching for Megan, and frowned when his hand found empty bed space beside him. Opening his eyes, he wondered where she was, and he leaned up on an elbow, taking a look around. He could smell coffee from the other room and he relaxed when he heard her moving around. Sitting up, he stretched and then slid out of bed, finding his boxers and making his way to the loo. After that, he started out to the kitchen, smiling to find her there. "Morning, Beautiful."
On her way to open the door for Daisy to go out, Megan turned when he talked behind her. "Good morning," she smiled, reaching up for a quick kiss. "Sleep well?" The coffee was ready, with two mugs already out on the counter for them. "Help yourself. I just need to take this one out before I can join you."
The little dog didn't want to go out in the damp and the cold, and it took Megan to bodily lift her over the doorstep and put her down outside before she got the message and did what needed to be done. A few moments later she came back inside, going to her bowl to investigate it for breakfast. Closing the door again, Megan turned to Eddie with a wide smile on her face. "Sorry about that - we're still learning how to do this."
"Mmm. I slept great," he replied, easily returning her kiss. Eddie turned to the counter as she took Daisy outside, and he poured them both some coffee, fixing hers the way he remembered she liked it before he added milk and sugar to his own. Picking up his mug, he leaned against the counter and watched as Megan and Daisy came back in. She came back in and he held her mug up for her as she turned to him. "No need to apologize. I remember when I got my first dog, and it took ages to get her used to telling us when she needed to go out."
She took the coffee from him, taking a sip as she came to lean against the counter next to him. "Mmm, thank you," she said, wrapping her hands around the mug to warm them up. "She's getting better at it, I think. For the first few mornings after I got her there was a puddle on the floor before I could get her outside." Laughing, she took another sip of coffee. "And that's not a very romantic topic, is it?"
"You're welcome," he replied, slipping an arm around her as she stood next to him. "Not the most romantic, no, but it doesn't all have to be just romance." Eddie smiled, then took another sip of his coffee. "Thank you for having me over, though. It's- I had a really good night." He really was trying, and he hoped that at some point he'd start to feel like he really did deserve her again.
"No, it doesn't have to be," she agreed. Megan turned to put her mug down on the counter behind her, then leaned into him, wrapping both arms around him in a hug. "You're welcome." She pulled away to see his face and smiled. "I enjoyed having you here. This was something else I missed while we were apart." And it was; she'd honestly discovered so many things that she had missed without even realising it now that they were back together again.
Eddie set his mug down as she did, turning to face her as her arms wrapped around him in return. He smiled, a hand coming up to smooth down a bit of her hair. "Mmm, I missed this too." Leaning down he kissed her again, gently. "I missed a lot..a lot more than I had realized. But it's- I'm really glad- grateful, really, for this second chance."
She smiled, returning the kiss. "Then let's not mess it up like the first time?" Megan said, completely serious now as she looked up into his face. "I don't think I'll be able to survive a second time."
"I'm going to do my best not to," Eddie replied, just as serious as he looked back to her. His hands moved down to rest just at her hips, holding her close. "I don't think I could, either. And I- Merlin, Meg, I am so afraid that I'm going to bugger this up again, and I'm just..I'm trying. I just want to make you happy."
"But you do make me happy, Eddie. I am happy. Just don't..." She sighed, touching his cheek. "Don't worry about all those other things that you think I may need and that you need to work so hard for. I don't care about that. I care about this... waking up with you and coming home to you and going to sleep with you. And Merlin, that is so sappy and girly, but it's the truth. That's all I want." She took a breath, a smile breaking through again. "I swear I was smiling when I woke up this morning and it was only because you were there."
Eddie tried to relax, nodding once. His eyes half closed for a moment as she touched his cheek and he wrapped his arms a little more snugly around her, dropping his head to her shoulder, pressing a kiss to the curve of her neck. "I don't care if it's sappy. I want this- I miss it with you." He smiled, glad just to hold her close. "Any chance we can make this happen more than just every once in a while? The mornings together, I mean?" He knew it was soon, but a part of him just didn't care.
A light shiver passed through her when he kissed her neck and she leaned more fully into his embrace. "Yes," she replied without a moment's hesitation, "I'd like that." Maybe it was too soon, but she figured that it wasn't as if they were moving in together after two weeks. And besides, even back when they'd been engaged they had still kept their separate flats. Megan squeezed him in a hug. "You're probably hungry."
Eddie released a breath he hadn't quite realized he'd been holding, and he relaxed as she leaned into him. "Good," he whispered, pressing a kiss to her temple. "You and Daisy should come over sometimes, too. You're welcome any time you'd like." He smiled a bit as she squeezed him and he lifted his head. "Mmm, a little. Somebody wore me out last night." He smiled playfully. "And it can't hurt to work up the energy for this morning, too."
Megan smiled against him at the offer. "We will, thank you." Laughing, she pulled away again to see his face. "You are clearly out of practice if I managed to wore you out last night," she teased, pressing a kiss to his mouth. She smoothed her hands up his chest to curl around his neck. "And you make a good point - I'll just have to feed you before anything else."
"Very out of practice. Terribly out of practice," Eddie exclaimed, smiling at her kiss. He gave a low sound as her hands slid along his skin and he tugged her just closer. "Breakfast does sound good... What do we want? I can help cook..."
"That's both of us, then - luckily." She grinned, giving him another kiss. "We'll just have to spend some time practicing." Thinking, she pressed her lips together. "Honestly? I haven't got much. I wasn't exactly planning to have someone over for the night. Eggs. Toast. Jam. Cheese if we're lucky." She'd been planning to go grocery shopping that morning, so her cupboards were empty.
"I like practicing," Eddie replied. "Especially if it's with you." He smiled, returning her kiss. "Well. Eggs and toast sound like a good enough breakfast to me. And the coffee, of course. That should hold us over until we can pick something up for lunch, I would think?"
“Mmm, that’s good to know.” Megan nodded. “That sounds good to me. And that means I should let you go, so that we can start on breakfast,” she said, but made no move to actually do that. Standing there with him like that was much more appealing than food right now. A minute of two more wouldn’t make them any hungrier. Still smiling, she tilted her head as she looked at him. “So you’re staying for lunch, then?”
"If you aren't sick of me, then I think I'd like to," Eddie replied, smiling playfully as he looked back to Megan. "I'll even help you with the shopping. And making of it."
"I'm not sick of you," she said with a slow shake of her head, "at all, so you can stay without even having to help." She leaned closer for another kiss; she really couldn't help it at this point, she couldn't get enough of him. "And we'll have to go by your place to get you more clothes. I don't have any spare clothes for you lying around anymore." Well, except that one shirt of his that she had kept and she was not willing to part with it.
"Good," Eddie replied, leaning down to kiss her again. He was..happy, for the first time in a long time. And as much as he loved it, it also made him a little nervous, but he tried to ignore that part of it. "We can do that. And if you want to drop anything at my place for when you stay over, we can do that, too." Another kiss, letting it linger. "You know, much more and I'm going to want something entirely different for breakfast..."
"Okay, that's a good idea." Megan laughed, burying her face against his shoulder, before pressing a kiss to his skin. "I won't complain. We can always just have brunch later when we go out for groceries and clothes."
Eddie couldn't help but laugh, then shifted to lift her up, urging her legs around his waist. "Well then," he started, kissing her again. "I believe I might just take this back to the bedroom." She was right, they could have food while they were out. He could wait on it, anyways-- they had over a year to make up for, and he was only just getting started.
