Harry was pulled into an emergency meeting as soon as he’d stepped into the office that morning. An undercover Auror had gone missing and that usually meant one of two things - that he’d been taken or that he was dead. Both were grim prospects, the first usually ending in the second if they didn’t act immediately and found him. That it was Theodore Nott came as a bit of a surprise, but even that was soon pushed to the back of his mind. With the first flutter of excitement over, they got to work, settling in for what would probably be a whole day of going through old case files that Nott had been working on; and also hunting down anything else that may lead them in the right direction. Hours ticked by with Aurors coming and going, some huddling together in an effort to figure something puzzling out, and others leaving to contact informants and chasing down leads. This was the part of his job that Harry really loved; it made everything else worth it - even the paperwork that would inevitably follow.
It was after lunch when the first glimmer of a plan started to take shape; another hour and a million small changes and it was set in stone. They had narrowed it down to five possible locations - or at least, the five most likely - and five teams would strike at the same time at each location late that night. Hopefully, with luck on their side, Nott would be at one of those locations and still alive. With the overall plan gone over one last time, the teams split off to co-ordinate themselves and finalise their own individual plans for that night. There was a lot to do and organise and more hours flew by, tension starting to permeate the air as the time for them to leave came closer. Most (if not all) of them had contacted their loved ones during the day at some point; they were going into danger and they all knew it. Harry, himself had spoken with Ron and Hermione; and then he’d let Wendy know, too, that she wouldn’t be hearing from him that night.
And then it was time. They had made their plans, allowing for any eventuality they could think of and now all there was left to do was go out and do their jobs. Harry’s team arrived withing seconds of one another, immediately taking their positions and moving in on his signal. There were shouts from inside the rickety building, the sound of people running and the first spell was flung their way. It missed and moments later, Aurors were pouring through both the front and back entrances, wands at the ready. The room they were in was dimly lit, the light throwing shadows on the walls. Four men started to put up a fight, more of them coming in from a side room and for a while a battle raged through the rooms of that abandoned building.
