"I'll only stay as long as I need to," Lorcan said. This wasn't an impossible promise, so he had to promise the right thing. "As long as it takes. I don't want to stay somewhere without magic," he said with a wry twist to his mouth.
He could feel Corrie squeezing his hand, and he had to squeeze back, grateful for her caring, even if he didn't appreciate her fearful distress. But even to him, trying to be calm, it felt like the end of the world, or at least of a part of it, and it was easier to face uncertainty knowing that someone cared. The details didn't matter when the world was ending.
"I hate anti-magic," he added, and on impulse he got up and brushed a kiss against her cheek before picking up his suitcase.
"Take care of Min, I should go," he said. "I'm glad...well, for Min. I'm glad you're taking her."
