Biting her bottom lip, Lucia stepped carefully onto the pathway that she had walked up hundreds of times before, This time is different though. she thought, her eyebrows furrowing, This time Dad won't be at the end. Trying her best to ignore the pit in her stomach, she began the long march through the forest that surrounded the house. When she was a kid, she had hated being this far away from everyone. Now, she loved the solitude.
Birds chirped in the branches overhead and a breeze whipped passed, toying with her hair before making it's way through the flowers that grew around her. With a blank stare she trailed her fingers over the buds that were just beginning to bloom. This garden had always been her sanctuary, but she didn't know if digging in the dirt would help this time. Kneeling quietly, Lucia closed her eyes and listened.
