Yawning, Dominic looked once more over the document that had been holding his attention for the better part of the afternoon. It was boring and tedious and it made him crave coffee, but it was part of his job and so he resisted. He knew that coffee now would mean thoughts of Hestia and leaving early and that was something that he didn’t want to do…it was better in his opinion to read over the lengthy new regulations and issue his opinion of them and THEN go home so that he could focus on her. He was so driven to just push through the monotony that he didn’t even open his journal the entire afternoon, trusting that if Hannah or Hestia needed him they would contact him by the floo or send someone for him.
It was because of the document he had been reading that he didn’t see the monstrosity that went up on the journal network by the infamous Venom Quill. How was he to know that news of his and Hestia’s precious, closely kept secret had leaked out? They had been very careful, wanting to wait things out a bit and then break the news at their own pace, they certainly hadn’t intended to post news of this unexpected blessing in such a public manner, ESPECIALLY not before even telling her family.
Groaning, he decided that he was finished. He signed his name quickly to the notes and corrections he had made and placed it back in its envelope. Merlin but his head was pounding. Deciding that coffee was the best solution before straightening things and heading home for the day, he picked up his cup.
It was odd, how a thing like a mug could hold special meaning, but something silly like a coffee cup certainly had an effect on him now. It wasn’t even their cup, but just the thought of a cup full of coffee led to the thought of the cup he and Hestia had stolen from one another, and that led to the thought of Hestia and her laughter and her blue eyes…Damn. Work for the rest of the day would likely be futile
