For her family, the conjurers were no longer friends and they weren’t to be trusted. Everything came to them on a silver platter and thanks to a well placed rumor and accusation, her father had not been voted in as Magistratus—a roll he had spent his life grooming for. Everything was gone in the blink of an eye and part of her was looking forward to the moment when Cole Gray realized he couldn’t have it all.
“Just because it’s expected?”
She questioned him with a doubtful tone as her arm gave his a squeeze. The main entrance was large with enough room to accommodate a minimum of three hundred people or more.
“Come now Desi, deep down you and I both know you secretly love to be at odds with anyone resembling authority that isn’t you.”
Emma couldn’t help but point out. This was, in her opinion, the famous Vargas mob mentality. He was an alpha which was why the two of them had gotten along so well. The head of the Illusionist family didn’t care what anyone else though and he constantly did as he pleased with the best interests of his family at heart. She couldn’t fault him for that.
“Your legacy to Rosa will consist of escorts and debts to the house?”
Rosa was the apple of his eye, but the enchanter knew how much of a handful the youngest of the family truly was. She was a free spirit and Desi unfortunately couldn’t help but hold on too tight. In a way she felt bad for the little girl she had watched when she was growing up, which is why Emma didn’t mind giving Rosa the one thing she wanted most—breathing room. Despite his strict ways, the eldest Ward couldn’t stop herself from pointing on an obvious flaw to his grand notions.
“Wouldn’t you prefer to get her a pony instead or perhaps dedicate a Convent to her in her name?”
The laughter she had pent up finally escaped as she tore her gaze away from him to look around the space. It definitely had a lot of potential. For now though, she would let him off the hook and stop teasing his hypocritical ways.
“Well if this is what you want to do, I’ll offer my services where I can.”
