It was rare for Dixie to sleep in so late. Granted, most people wouldn’t think that Seven in the morning was late by any means. Everything was all sorts of out of place considering her usual schedule. So that meant improving where she could. She had checked over her emails and voicemails over ‘breakfast’ of coffee, toast and cereal. She had stretched, done a bit of training herself, which meant it was Krypto’s and Flash’s turn.
And her boys were more than ready to get going this morning. Heading out onto the expansive grounds, her Anatolian Shepherd, Flash, bolted ahead and explored the path ahead. Krypto, a Dogo Argentino, kept a steady pace beside his owner. Occasionally he barked, trying to get Flash to rush back and join them .The light brown dog would circle around before rushing back off again. He needed to run and for now, Dixie was not going to begrudge him. Besides, Flash knew to return when commanded.
“Well this should be good enough,” Dixie said more to herself than her dogs. There was enough open space here that they could train and play without worry of knocking into anyone or anything. Hopefully.
With a sharp whistle, Flash returned to her left side and sat as Krypto sat on her right. A flick of her wrist sent both dogs off running, making a wide arc. Krypto was slower, but Flash was monitoring his pace for the larger dog. His superior sight allowed him to watch for the hand signs that Dixie gave. Another whistle, lower, and a hand signal, had both dogs stopping dead in their tracks. A flick of her wrist had them laying down, though they were more than a hundred meters from her. A nudge forward had them crawling before she whistled again to release them from their command. And the two big dogs just ran around again like puppies.
She continued to work them on the basics before bringing out the real reason they were out here. A tennis ball. She tossed the ball as hard as she could before sitting down on her heels. They’d come around eventually. Once they found it.
