It was a good thing Chloe had secured herself a job because otherwise she was pretty sure that she'd have gone insane waiting around the house with all of these people. It wasn't that the ones she'd met so far weren't nice because that wasn't true (on the whole) but she felt like there were so many politics in this place that she just didn't get or understand and walking delicately to avoid hurting peoples' feelings wasn't something that she was particularly good at.
"I know momma," she said into the phone, turning on the grill. There wasn't anyone else in the kitchen right now which she was glad of. The phone was held between her shoulder and her head so she could use her hands to do other things like grate cheese. "But it's just- it's crazy here, there's so many people and none of them are like dad... Well, Cole is but that ain't the point." She sighed, "I miss home. There's a part of me that wishes I'd never hauled ass out here."
Cheese grated, Chloe checked the grill again. Not quite hot enough.
"Yeah, 'course it's a lie. Nowhere else I'd be. We both know that. Thanks momma, I'll call you soon." She smiled into the receiver. "Love you too. Have a good evenin'."
Ending the call, Chloe put the cheese onto her already slightly toasted bread and then put it under the grill. She became aware at that point that she wasn't alone, or at least that there was someone in the doorway whether they had just arrived or not she didn't know.
Turning on her heel, she offered a sunny smile at the newcomer. "Hey," she greeted. She didn't recognise him, didn't know who he was and without a knowledge of the families outside of what Cole and her dad had told her she couldn't really place him with a family either. He didn't look like he was related to Cody, so he wasn't an Evoker. But past that, she had no idea. "C'mon in, I ain't gonna bite. Makin' food. You want some?" She'd been raised with good manners and was happy to put on some more for the newcomer if he wanted it.
