Tabitha shifted, a half flinch when his hand covered hers but then she glanced up through painted lashes and wispy strands of blonde hair, shifting how her hand was resting ever so slightly so she could catch Sully's fingers with hers in a silent thank you for the reassurance he was offering her in that instant. An ambush? Sort of, she supposed.
She swallowed, trying to work out how best to describe the clusterfuck of an attack that had happened, the way she'd almost died and a fine tremble rippled over her at that thought. She'd nearly died, in fact, she'd been ready to. She'd prepared herself for that because it had been a certainty, at least, that was how it had felt at the time. A total certainty. Four on one and even then when she'd lost consciousness, she was pretty sure she wasn't about to wake up from it again.
A part of her wanted to go back to testing awful smoothies just to get rid of the way that fear crept up on her again, that dark hopelessness that had wrapped itself around her mind when the odds looked like they were against her.
"I'd taken Matthias out for the night, you know what he gets like when he's been alone too long," it was said with an affectionate smile if not touched with a hint of sadness at the memory of what should have been a good night. "I needed some air, he was dancing with a girl and so... I just went outside. There were four of them." She bit her lower lip and the fingers of her other hand curled into a fist at the memory. "I killed one," which was a feat for her because outside of training she hadn't actually killed anything, "Matthias took on the other three but-"
She shook her head. "I got bit." Her voice caught again, voicing for the first time since the attack what had happened to her and she felt safe enough with Sully that she knew it wouldn't go anywhere else, that her weakness wouldn't be judged or shared with anyone. Her hands started shaking again even with the reassuring touch from Sully. "Matthias said I pretty much died on him." Her eyes flicked up to Sully, meeting his for a moment before she looked down again. "Sorry- I- shit-"
