"That was pathetic but it will have to do." he conceded and then motioned towards the hall "Go to the garage and make yourself comfortable in the back." It was a tight squeeze behind the front seats but it wasn't the worst situation and it was only until they were able to drive far enough away from the house.
If she offered and hesitation at all he rolled his eyes and tapped his wrist "Trust me or not time is running out!" and then he waited for her to scamper off before opening the fridge and looking in it like he was searching for something and very disappointed not to find it. That was the scene their mother saw when she opened the door. Lo snapped up like she'd surprised him and turned to greet her with his usual cut to the chase conversation,
"There's no cake in this fridge, how are we supposed to celebrate our family reunion without cake?" but his mother didn't seem impressed, at all. She must know the only reason he was here on his spring break was because of the mess going on in their family. Wards were typically magnets for juicy chaos like this, if not the cause of it.
"Is your sister home?"
He put on one of those classically annoying grins and reminded his mother (as if she needed reminding) "I have two and I haven't seen either of them, I was hoping you would know where they were."
She didn't seem to be in the mood and it only highlighted how things were going to go once Ally did make an appearance. He was starting to feel more and more like a fantastic brother, he was being so nice doing this.
In the middle of his mental preening he had started to move towards the hall to the garage, realizing he'd missed whatever his mother had said, "Well I'll see if I can find them in town while I pick up a cake."
He was halfway down the hall and he heard her call after him "No cake!" in her authoritative exasperation, but he simply called back "Cupcakes!" before ducking into the garage. He hit the button to open the garage door and made his way to the car, peering to see if she'd actually followed through.
