The female's reaction to Evan introducing himself seemed odd. Evan watched as her eyes continued to shift between him and his friends. When she introduced herself to him, Evan repeated her name after she spoke it, "Hollis." He smiled politely before responding, "Well, I'm not everybody." Calling her Holly seemed so casual, so common. Hardly suitable for a girl as uniquely beautiful as her.
Hollis spoke of her family and how they had been in town for generations, how they were behind the Dewinter Brewing company. Honestly, Evan had heard of it. Who in Ravencroft Acres hadn't heard of the Dewinter Brewing company? "My father is an alcoholic," Evan added and then found himself grow embarrassed that he had even brought such a personal thing up, especially to a girl like Hollis. "Not that it's your family's fault," he continued, wishing that he hadn't. He should have just left it alone. "It's his own fault." Evan heard the snickers of amusement behind him from his friends and if he could have crawled beneath a rock and hid there, he likely would have.
Hollis spoke of how she attended the Academy, which was pretty obvious considering she was hanging out with the rich kids, and her family owned a successful brewing company which meant she was wealthy also. Hollis apologized about the confusion and went onto say that Evan must think that she was absolutely crazy. She had seen him at the coffee shop where she worked. She spoke of him looking like a guy who went to her school named Regan. "I think you're the most beautiful girl I have ever seen in my life." Wait, had he said that out loud? Evan felt his face slightly flush in the realization that he had. He tried to spout off quickly in hopes that his comment would be overlooked somehow, "I don't think you're crazy."
She worked at the coffee shop. That was a good detail to keep in mind, especially if Evan ever had the courage to go looking for her after this encounter. His initial thought was why was she working? Her family was obviously filthy rich. Judging by the looks of her, she didn't look as if she needed nor wanted for anything. Yet, she worked at a coffee shop. Evan didn't pry into it further considering that he was surrounded by his friends and had already made quite the spectacle of himself without even trying. It was just interesting to know about her, that was all.
Evan noticed Hollis glancing over her shoulder back at her friends. He had talked too much, he should have shut up. If he had just played it cool perhaps she wouldn't be ready to run back to her friends, likely without even so much of another glance back in his direction.
Then Evan froze in place as she turned back towards him, a smile upon her features as she spoke his name. Honestly, in all of Evan's life, he had never heard his name sound as sweet as it did coming from her lips. Evan nodded, answering her without saying another word. Hollis spoke of him seeming to have fun before she arrived and ruined his night. How she should let him get back to his friends, how she should brave going back to her own friends.
"You didn't ruin my night," Evan pointed out matter of fact. "You're a lot nicer on the eyes than these clowns," he added jokingly pointing back at his group of friends without looking in their direction. Instead, his eyes continued to remain fixated on her.
"You can tell them that I came into the coffee shop and was short, you were coming over to get what I owe you. It would be believable." It was a suggestion. Evan knew how her group of friends mostly were. She would go back to them and they'd give her a difficult time about coming over for just something as simple as being seen within close proximity to him. Probably as much of a time as his friends were going to give him once she walked away.
Reaching out, Evan grabbed her hand and looked at her. It was a bold move, but one that would make his suggestion look more believable. "It was nice meeting you, Hollis," Evan spoke honestly and then he did something out of character of himself, he brought her hand up to his lips and smiled against her skin before placing an innocent kiss where his smile had just been before releasing his grasp on her.
