Her eyes rolled fondly at the statement, but said nothing about it, letting the sardonic remark stay in the crevices of her mind. Again, her eyes rolled. “Bullshit.” The profanity that left her lips surprised herself. She wasn’t usually the one to curse…well, she had religiously as a freshman, but she never found it appealing afterwards. She didn’t find talking appealing in general. Jane watched him climb the tree, particularly his feet and making sure that he didn’t hurt himself. But he was Roald. He knew how to take care of himself. “It was cruel! I thought you were the grudge or something.” She watched him settle onto the branch next to her, watching his brows pucker and searching his mind. Her smile broadened when he laughed – even laughed herself a little.
Jane didn’t laugh much. The urge slowly died; but she did every so often, and it was hard not to when she was around Roan, and especially - especially when they were reminiscing in their previous years together. “I’d say I’m sorry, but it was too much fun,” she snickered, poking his arm. “You looked absolutely ridiculous. You’re lucky I didn’t take a picture.” Her legs continued to swing and looked up at the clear sky. It was nice up there. She felt relaxed – free. There was a soft silence between them, but nothing uncomfortable. Not to her, anyway. Finally, she looked at him, smiling softly and almost sadly. “We had a lot of fun together, didn’t we?”
