Selby turned, surprised to encounter Alex this early in the morning anywhere besides a required Ainsworth swim practice. She adjusted the strap on her Chloe shoulder bag as she dropped Bailey's small gift into it for safekeeping.
"And generally, DPN girls buy their sorority sisters birthday gifts," she countered, smiling. Alex looked very put together this morning, with a fresh shirt and crisp slacks. He was probably here to meet someone.
The sound of squeaky wheels against the mall's tile floor caused her to look to their left. A harried young mother, her hair escaping from a Red Sox baseball cap, was driving a double stroller loaded with sleeping twin boys with the determination of a pioneer farmer pushing a plow. Selby stepped back against the jewelry store window, pinching the waistline of Alex's pants to pull him along with her.
"It's Mommy Mall Walk Morning," Selby said. "The most dangerous shopping day of the week."
