Zuko often found that he wondered whether or not Yue was ever content in her new home. Granted, she did smile more and seemed more cheerful as time went on and the days went by. Butit bothered Zuko that he never knew for sure if she was actually happy or just pretending to be.
He knew for a fact that she was homesick, as he would often find her sitting in front of the pond and staring at the moon. He would offer her things to comfort her and yet Yue would simply ask if he would sit with her. It was surprising, considering the two barely knew each other before this arranged marriage took place. But Zuko would oblige and sit down next to the princess. This night was no different, though Yue didn't have to ask, as Zuko took his normal seat to her right. She cast a glance at him and smiled when she noticed his head was tilted in the direction of the moon. There was silence and Zuko wondered what his bride was thinking of."Push and Pull," she whispered.
Zuko looked at her, confused. "Push and Pull. Tui and La. It's a story about the Moon and Ocean spirits told back in the North Pole." Yue pressed her hand over her heart and sighed softly. "The Moon Spirit is apart of me. It gave me life," she said softly. She felt Zuko take her hand and she gave it a gentle squeeze. "When I was a baby, I was very sick and very weak. I never cried. The best healers told my parents I would die. So my father took me to the Spirit Oasis. He prayed that Tui and La would help me and put me in the water. My hair turned white and I began to cry. I grew up happy and healthy. All because of the gift of the Moon Spirit."
The Fire Prince sat stunned, unsure of how to react to Yue's story for she so rarely talked. And when she did, she never offered anything of her past or her life in the North Pole. And suddenly, Zuko felt obliged to offer a secret of his own. But there weren't any secrets to share. She knew the origin of his scar. And the reason he hunted the Avatar without end. What could he possibly tell her that she did not already know? His mother crossed his mind for a moment, before Zuko mentally railed against it. She was simply off limits, even to his kind-hearted, soft spoken princess.
"I know it must be hard, being so far from your home. Away from your family," He said softly as he slid closer to her in an effort to comfort her more.
Yue smiled and rested her cheek against her husband's shoulder. "It is. I miss my father and my people very much. But it is getting better. Because you are here beside me," she replied. Zuko sighed, a little disappointed that Yue was and had been unhappy here. He wished he could fix it for her. But at least it was getting better. And the Fire Prince couldn't ask for more.
