Isobel blushed in splotches, embarrassed at having mentioned something that was surely painful for him. To lose a wife in childbirth was a terrible thing and, unfortunately, terribly common in Westeros. Her heart went out to him, a father with no wife and having to leave his children with his own lady mother to take care of them.
"I have no brothers. My mother died in childbirth," Isobel explained, feeling like the worst kind of idiot for having mentioned it. It was insensitive, surely, and she tried her best to change the subject and move it back toward more pleasant things.
"As to your attire, I find you most pleasing." Damn. She hadn't meant to say that! "That is, to say, you do not displease me and you do not seem rumpled at all."
