Genna's temper snapped. She would have screamed except that she didn't want to upset Gwyn, but she was tired of all of them. Her eyes filled with tears. The only thing in the world she wanted right now was her twin. This was all easier when you didn't have to be by yourself fighting dumb grownups who wouldn't say what they meant and wouldn't act right.
"Don't you call me that," she said fiercely. "You don't even want us. I wish I got the plague too so you wouldn't have to look at either of us. So stop it. Just stop it and send me away. I don't want to be here with any of you!" Genna would never have spoken this way to her father or a king, and she didn't know why she said it even now except that she hated the way everyone kept lying and saying things and doing something else. And maybe if she just made him yell, he'd be normal again.
She hated her twin not being with her. Not having mother wasn't so bad but she could never ever remember a time when she hadn't been absolutely sure father cared about her until now and without Gwyn it seemed like she didn't have anyone at all. So she didn't look away from William, she wouldn't.
