"Well...you should probably put on something other than just your shift so that you don't catch cold," said Toria gently. "But for now, I'll just put a blanket around you in my room, and we'll get a messenger to tell Uncle William that you'd like to see him as soon as he is able."
She smoothed her hand over Genna's hair and let her cry for a few seconds before resting her arm over her cousin's shoulders. She led Genna to her bedchamber because it wouldn't do to let the girl go running around in her shift in places where most people would see her. The last thing that needed to happen was gossip.
Taking one of the blankets off of her bed, Toria draped it over her cousin's shoulders, then sat on the bed.
"Now, why don't you want to wear a dress?" Toria asked. Genna loved pretty things. Though it was no surprise that she wasn't acting herself while her sister was ailing, it was a shock that she would refuse a dress so adamantly.
