They wouldn’t be leaving for another hour yet, but Tristran was too restless to be still. He wandered through the yard, watching as the supplies were loaded and the horses saddled. Nerves and anticipation were twisting his guts into knots, and he wanted to be away from this place, wanted to be moving, wanted a sword in his hand. It was a familiar feeling; he was an anointed knight of the Seven, after all, and this would be far from his first battle. He tried not to think on the fact that this would be the first one that truly meant anything.
He needed to speak to his father, but he hadn’t seen Lord Mallister since the previous afternoon, and he didn’t want to be off searching hallways and council chambers once they were finally ready to leave. He could visit the Sept, but most of the castle was still abed, and chances were the Keep’s septon was among them. Being alone with his thoughts right now would do him no good.
At least it appeared the ride through the Crownlands would be easy. The wind was bitter, and he could see his breath misting in the air, but there were no clouds on the horizon. That probably wouldn’t last long, this time of year, and just the thought of being out to sea during an autumn storm made his stomach turn. He prayed they would be able to put an end to things quickly.
