Toria led the way to her room. Desmera was there...but as Desmera knew the truth, she didn't so much as raise an eyebrow.
"I'd like some tea, please," she said. "Jaer will be joining me for a cup before he attends to other business."
"Of course, my lady," said Desmera. The tall and formidable woman bowed her head and exited.
Toria waited until the door had closed behind Desmera before walking over to Jaehaerys and wrapping her arms around him tightly.
The walls might have ears - but at least they didn't have eyes. Her window shutters were closed, and so long as she kept her voice hushed, she could have as much privacy as could be found in the Red Keep. Quite likely, someone would have noticed him accompanying her to her room. However, Desmera would return shortly, they'd both be dressed, and he'd leave shortly after tea. Or so she assumed.
"I'm so sorry about your loss," she said softly, her voice barely above a whisper. "I can't do a great deal to help, but a woman should be there for her betrothed when he is grieving. Even if all she can offer is an embrace and sincere condolences."
