Episode. Dragons Fall. William's Chamber. When: Day 28. Early morning. Where: William's chambers moments after this post Who: William Stark, Lyam. Status: Open. Rating: R.
The routine in the kings chambers remained as it always had been, more or less. This was the place where the ruler of the Seven Kingdoms rested, guarded by his Kingsguard, by the Gold Cloaks, by the palace guards and his own House Guards. Priceless tapestries hung over the walls and carpets more luxurious than many could dream of littered the floor. Velvets and silks, furs and the trappings of a thousand years of rule filled the space.
Lyam had been the one to assist Lord William Stark in chambers, the duties he had once performed for Paegon the Just. He had long since been accustomed to the grandeur of the Keep and all its countless routines and rules. He had weathered the ceremony of empty caskets held for Queen Aeria and Prince Jaehaerys, then the all-too-real funeral of Paegon. He had played in the summer gardens alongside the lost prince and now... another funeral would come if the runner his father had sent spoke true, and true he feared it must be as he had heard the general panic beginning to burble up in the hallway. He wanted to run to his wife, but he was a steward's son and knew his duty as he knew his own heart.
He went instead into the kings chamber where the regent slept and opened the windows as if the hour were the usual time, lit the candles and moved to wake his lord regent.
"My lord if it please your grace, there is--- Bright mother's sweet mercy..." Lyam's words faded in his throat. In the bed, a pale strip of... something... lay limp and unmoving save for the soft solid drip of drying blood as it slid to the floor from the coverlet. Fear arrowed through him. The Regent dead as Paegon? "King William? Lord Regent?"
