It was said that the swords used to forge the Iron Throne were those of the first Dragon King's enemies and that they were to be kept sharp, as no king should be entirely comfortable upon the throne. William was inclined to think he was more uncomfortable than most, given that king of the Seven Kingdoms was still an incredibly reluctant office for him. He'd rather be home, in Winterfell, watching his children play together and grow while minding his land and his people.
Another man might say that being king of all Westeros was a natural extension of being a lord, but those men had never been Lords of Winterfell. It wasn't like ruling some Southron house, given that the lands of Winterfell were still harsh and untamed to this day. The North had only one true city, White Harbor, and even it was the smallest of all cities in Westeros. Things up north were untamed and beautiful, if a bit raw. William preferred it to the intimate subtleties that made up King's Landing and the south.
He wasn't cut out for politics, that much was certain. His favorite part of being king was hearing audiences. He'd always been a good decision maker and, when presented with a problem, could usually come up with a suitable compromise between the disputing parties. He preferred listening to men squabble about stolen horses to determining which side Westeros should back in a skirmish between Quarth and Lys. He knew so much more about the day to day things.
He sighed a little and shifted on the throne, careful to keep his arms raised so that he didn't nick himself upon the throne. The last thing he needed was doubt in his ability to rule and he didn't want it spreading around the Keep that the throne had rejected him. It'd instill doubt in an already-frightened people.
"Speak your case and let it be deliberated," he said in a clear voice, waiting for the next audience to present.
