Jaehaerys smiled at Toria and made his way to Gwyn's bed. The girl looked more like a doll than a child- if her chest hadn't moved slightly with each breath he would have mistaken her for the work of a gifted carver. Her face was pale but touching her forehead he could feel she was warmer than she ought to have been.
He focused on Gwyn, letting the others mind themselves. He rested a hand on her chest and frowned. The pulse was slowed. That was no fever. He bent over the girl and caught the scent of honey and grain- they must have taken to feeding her some small gruels to keep her from starving... but beneath that... he opened her mouth and glanced at her gums which looked pale... and her breath held the trace of something dark. Copper and amber...
"Have they been feeding her metals then?" he asked Toria. Seven knew, Maester's took strange ideas in their heads. "Any medicines concocted from silver or crushed pearls or any of that nonsense?"
