"It's not just paranoia," said Toria, regret apparent on her features. "Unfortunately, in her grief, my aunt insulted Princess Elia. She still wishes to help due to compassion for my young cousin, but not in the same capacity as she had offered before. Since I came to her as a friend and apologized to her on behalf of my aunt, she recommended you as someone who could be counted on to help, so long as you were treated well and paid well."
The more she heard the man's voice, the more she was convinced she'd heard it before. She still couldn't place it, and it was inwardly driving her mad. Outwardly, she kept her composure, though she began studying his features more intently as discreetly as she could manage.
"That's open for discussion," said Toria. "One sum will be for simply coming to the Red Keep and examining little Princess Gwyn and providing a diagnosis. The other sum will be for producing an antidote that will cure her."
She motioned to the knight who stood silently behind her. He inclined his head politely, but did not say anything.
"This is Ser Geron Marbrand. He is an excellent knight and he will ensure your safe passage into the Red Keep and out of it."
