Notes: It's a narrative but feel free to post about any sort of reaction to an incident at the Latverian Embassy or appearance of a new suit for Spider-Man.
It started as a pulsating light that burst forth into a vortex of other worldly energy in the heart of the Latverian Embassy. The flash of energy toppled tables and sent files soaring through the air as the few people in attendance ducked for cover. The howling maw of the dimensional portal swelled with an eerie cry and a limp form was hurled from it's swirling center. The body landed in a heap with such force that it shattered the legs of an ornate wooden table. The gusts of wind pouring from the opening grew and the sound drowned out the cries of foreign nationals shielded from the brunt of it all. With one final cry, the portal flickered and blinked out of existence leaving those present in a stunned silence. The few brave souls that peered out from their spots of comfort searched the air for any remains of the portal. Inevitably, all eyes turned to the fallen form groaning on the shattered table.
The mysterious figure lay in a heap, steam curling from the edges of his black and red uniform. As soon as he stirred his movements caused the weakened wood to crack beneath him. The sound of snapping wood galvanized the nearest aide who hit an alarm button that sent up a piercing wail. The displaced teen groaned and sat up, his gloved hands shielding his ears as his head throbbed painfully. "Wha--?" The masked man turned his head back and forth slowly, his vision a blur of colors. "I'm..." The voice began in a raspy voice "I'm blanking on a pithy quip."
As his vision finally began to clear, the man was certain of two things: He was fortunate enough to be in one piece and he was not alone. The alarm that had been threatening to split his skull died out and was replaced with something far more terrifying; the sound of metallic footfalls. A trio of robotic replicas stood less than ten feet away and they in turn intoned that their actions were for the glory of doom.
That last word struck a chord with the vigilante and caused his head to vibrate viciously. The feeling in the base of his skull spurred him to action and Spider-Man rolled out of the way of a burst of energy from the robot's hands. "Robots? Seriously?" The black clad youth turned the roll into a cartwheel and he gained his footing among the debris. "Can this day get any worse?" The nearest doombot charged forward, faster than expected and knocked the vigilante to the ground. "For the glory of Doom!"
"Yeah, how about not?" Spider-Man curled his legs under him and launched the doombot into the air with such force he collided with the ceiling. Miles' body reacted on instinct now as he rolled again, his hands pushing him higher until he was practically rotating in a crab walk to avoid the blasts from the metallic menace. "It's got to be a pain to keep building these things." Spidey somersaulted forward and came out of the maneuver with a powerful punch aimed at the center of the robot. His fist destroyed metal and circuitry alike, dropping the enemy in one hit.
The remaining robot began to fire once more which caused the web head to jerk in surprise to avoid the attack. A short scream drew his attention to civilians and Miles cursed himself. "Sorry Bender, I don't have time to stick around and play." With that, Spider-Man jumped over the remaining robot and bounced off the nearest wall; a web line shot him forward at enough speed that the wall crawler burst through a large ornate window. Miles shot another line which carried him out to the large flagpole on the embassy's lawn. He paused momentarily to reach back and web the hole in the window before scanning his surroundings. "How did I wind up back in the city?" Behind him the embassy once again erupted with alarms causing the throbbing in his head to return. He couldn't stick around here any longer..
Spider-Man leapt from the top of the pole, it's flag waving proudly with the symbol of Latveria. A web line caught the edge of a nearby building and carried the hero out over the street where a few New Yorkers were raising their camera phones to snag a picture. Miles swung away as fast as he could. He had so many questions and needed answers. Maybe one of the Ultimates knew what was going on with that weird portal.
