"I think I follow," Karolina replied, though this conversation was starting to hurt her head. She knew more than most about the basics of traveling through time, space and dimensions (thanks evil parents and evil elder gods), but she'd never thought this deeply about it. "God, how do you keep all the places straight? And—wait, who are you taking on these trips across dimensions?"
She had thought of America's work as something done in a fair amount of solitude. Sure, she knew the other girl had friends and comrades-in-arms in other dimensions, but she hadn't considered that America was taking allies with her across borders on dimensions. "You think something from another dimension is responsible for killing him?" It wasn't far fetched. Nothing about the assassination made sense, but she had to wonder why someone from another reality entirely would care to cause mayhem here.
"Listen, I know you. If there's other people out there to help, you want to help them first and foremost. So you'll have to forgive my skepticism when I say I doubt you really looked very hard," she smirked a bit, running a hand over America's hair. "But that's okay, because it's my job to take care of you, and I have a good portion of the known universe at my disposal to go looking for a solution." She gave America a squeeze. What would have happened if this had continued on unchecked? She'd probably wind up with a girlfriend with scrambled eggs for brains someday. It was good that she knew, and she felt the briefest pang of guilt for being aloof to all this before. "I'd do anything to keep you safe."
