Gert started going home at normal hours. She was running a program in the background at her office that she could see from a home computer she encrypted tightly. She borrowed some code from very smart friends, so she could work from home if she had to. Cyber security and data analysis often took a long time to process. Since she was coming home at a normal time, Chase seemed a little more relieved. He knew how much all of this was stressing her out, and tried to help her unwind.
Chase's arm was draped over Gert's him and he snored softly into her ear. By now Gert was used to the sound and could sleep through it when she was tired enough. It didn't help that sometimes Old Lace snored and their chorus could be enough to rouse Gert from sleep. She was part of the way into consciousness when the buzzing noise kicked away the last tendrils of sleep and had Gert open her eyes. Her eyes flicked to the clock to observe the time and she made a face. Ugh, who came this early?
Gert slipped out from Chase's loose hold and pulled the sheets off simultaneously. She wore a pair of plaid pajama pants with a plain T-shirt. Her dark hair was a mess but she didn't really care. Gert put her glasses on as her feet shuffled out of the room and carried her to the door. Old Lace and Chase seemed unaffected by the buzzing sound, the two of them still snoring the morning away.
"Who is it?" Gert asked, her voice a sort of croaking sound that made her sound more irritated than she actually was.
